Don't think of a green elephant!
Once you've got a thought in your head and you want to not think that thought, you end up thinking about not thinking about it. Aaaaaaghhh!!!
Our subconscious is filled with green elephants - they are the limiting illusions of what reality is and what life is all about, and they've been programmed into our minds since the day we were born. Every bit of information we've acquired in our lives is for the most part 2nd hand, and even when it comes to personal experience, the perception of those experiences is coloured by our conditioning.
When you become aware of the extent of your conditioning you can choose to oppose it - develop new beliefs, alter your perception. But it's not a simple matter. Much of our consciousness is guided by our subconscious, so when you're using your conscious to figure out your subconscious and trying to rewrite the programming, well... it's like trying to write Chinese with western letters.
So deprogramming your old belief systems and re-programming new ones is fraught with inconsistencies and set-backs. This is very frustrating.
The beliefs I want to reprogram my own mind with are the ones that are consistent with the spiritual lessons I choose to lead my life by. Beliefs of freedom and limitlessness, of spirit essence, of connection with source and oneness with everything. These beliefs should terminate any fears or worries I may have in this illusory reality... anyone who's God should have no need for fear or worry right?
But every day I have to battle with these demons. Just when I feel comfortable with my new-found awareness, free to let myself be led by my heart... those fears and worries come trumpeting up from my subconscious like a whole herd of wayward green elephants scattering my feelings of peaceful serenity, sending them fleeing like frightened gazelles from a watering hole.
And with the gazelles go my inspiration and motivation and I start thinking... "maybe I should get a job..." Aaaaaaghhhhh!
I don't want a job - I'm God - I should be able to manifest money - why isn't this working?
The panic is of course also a conditioned response and as useless as fear and worry in manifesting anything good. But I come back to my senses - the way to stop thinking about green elephants is to turn them all yellow or blue or red or pink or rainbow coloured.
This is important to do, because letting the fears and worries and doubts get a hold of you defeats your efforts of manifesting your desires and just begets more fear/worry/doubt situations. The Law Of Attraction states this clearly... act as if you already have that which you desire in order for it to come to you... DON'T think about what you don't have, because you'll just manifest more of not-having... clearly a green-elephant conundrum if ever there was one.
