So as I mentioned in the last post, I wrote another song this morning. Quickly recorded it live (though it took a few takes) and posted on YouTube with the lyrics. Here it is - Gaté Gaté / Gone Beyond...
The second mantra song is recorded and up on YouTube. And at the time of writing I just wrote a third song in 20 minutes on a sunday morning (I already had the melody worked out). I'm inspired, and I want to keep that feeling... stay in this flow. Listening to the wisdom-filled guidance of Alan Watts and Bashar, they both say, above everything else, that it's vitally important to follow the path of most intense excitement and passion - and from this, everything else will fall into place. Well, writing these songs gives me that feeling more than anything at this moment... so I guess I just gotta do it, and stay intrigued about what it delivers and where it takes me. It just feels so right. Here's song number two - OM NAMAH SHIVAYA / ALL IS ONE... (The lyrics are included if you watch this on YouTube) I recently discovered mantra-singing, through the videos of Deva Premal and Miten. It was a very inspiring discovery. I've always wondered where my own songs and singing fitted in this whole inner-journey of self-discovery; and I also wondered where I would find the audience suited to my songs. Now I think I've found the answer. I didn't know anything about mantras or mantra singing before now. Listening to Deva singing, I presumed that the melodies were standard. I was wrong - the melodies Deva sings are composed by herself and Miten, with the exception of particular ones where other composers are mentioned (one of them being a guy called Praful, who I knew 20 years ago here in Amsterdam). So with this realization that you could take a mantra and create your own melody around it, it gave me the idea to try the same, but combining my own lyrics along with the mantra as complementary to the essential message of the mantra. With this idea, I can imagine singing in yoga groups and spiritual gatherings, and it inspires me tremendously to follow this path... writing from the heart and the basis of my spiritual beliefs. So, without further ado... I wrote two new songs with easy short mantras. The first is recorded and up on YouTube on the complementary channel to this blog. Here it is, see what you think. And DO let me know, but only if you've got something positive to share... |
